Carelton Fieldhouse No. 1

Carleton University Fieldhouse

As part of an expansion plan, including many new and existing facilities, the athletics department is developing this multi-use fieldhouse. The program of uses includes: field hockey and soccer fields, running tracks, other indoor field sports, and assembly uses such as convocation ceremonies, trade shows, exhibitions and examinations hall.

The structure of this building is unique, using the pre-engineered metal building technology by Honco Steel Buildings. The structure encompasses 50,000 square feet with a 200 foot clear span, and a clear ceiling height of 40 feet. The entire exterior cladding and roofing is galvalume-finished steel with aluminum windows and doors.

In keeping with the principles of green building design, the structure is constructed entirely of Canadian steel products, capable of being easily added to, demolished or recycled, or dismantled and relocated. It will enjoy a long life, low maintenance, and due to its high levels of insulation, relatively low energy cost for a building of this type.

Completion of the construction occurred in January 2003.
