Kanata Leisure Centre
The design and construction of this civic facility was conducted by a Design-Build consortium in 1987. In association with Barry Hobin, Architect, we re-designed the interiors of the complex, involving the selection of alternate finish materials, the colours scheme, design of the millwork and coordination of the changes required to mechanical and electrical systems (including new lighting schemes). The project was delivered on time and on budget under very tight time constraints.
As it was evident from the onset that financial constraints would dictate the design outcome, we decided to expose as much of the fabric of the building as reasonable (to minimize the use of costly finish materials) and to use bold colours to energize the spaces.
